Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 30 -- The eradication of rabies is possible only through a comprehensive 'One Health' approach that integrates human, animal, and environmental health, experts underlined at a workshop held at the Government Medical College campus here.
At the one-day workshop on Rabies and One Health, specialists stressed that systematic and sustained vaccination of at least 70 per cent of the dog population is the only effective and sustainable method to break the chain of rabies transmission.
Dr. Katie Hampson, a leading rabies researcher from the University of Glasgow and adviser to the World Health Organisation, said rabid dogs usually roam within a one-kilometre radius, posing significant risks to humans.
