Kolkata, July 5 -- West Bengal Governor R N Ravi on Sunday criticised previous governments for allegedly ignoring Indian culture and ethos in favour of Western models, claiming that such an approach weakened national unity and affected India's global standing.

Speaking as the chief guest at the Devrishi Narad Jayanti and Narad Samman distribution ceremony at Sisir Mancha in Kolkata, organised by Biswa Sangbad Kendra, Ravi said post-Independence leadership moved away from India's cultural roots.

The programme, which honours excellence in media and journalism, was attended by Organiser editor Praful Ketkar, state minister Kalyan Chakraborty, and other dignitaries.
