Shimla, Jan. 26 -- In a significant goodwill gesture on the occasion of Republic Day, the government has granted remission to 397 convicted prisoners lodged in various jails across the state, offering relief to inmates who have shown consistent good conduct during incarceration.

The remission has been extended under the orders of the state government, led by Chief Minister, reaffirming the administration's commitment to reformative justice and humane correctional practices. Officials said the decision is intended as a constitutional goodwill gesture aligned with the spirit of Republic Day.
