Doha, Sept. 1 -- Qatar warned Tuesday that the latest escalation between Iran and the US over the Strait of Hormuz was due to leaving the issue of control of the strategic waterway unresolved, adding that the renewed fighting benefits no one.
Asked about the resumption of hostilities in recent days, Qatari Foreign Ministry Spokesman Dr Majid Al-Ansari said Doha had warned "from day one" that failing to resolve the question of control over the strait "would end in escalation in the region, and this is what we saw yesterday and today".
"This escalation will not benefit anyone. We are all affected by this escalation," Al-Ansari said.
