Chandigarh, Aug. 31 -- Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, while inspecting the Ghaggar River at Khanauri Headworks, urged the Central Government to persuade Haryana to lift a Supreme Court stay that is hindering the widening of the river in parts of Punjab, from Makraur Sahib to Karail. This, he emphasized, is critical for a permanent solution to the recurring flood threat posed by the Ghaggar.

Cheema assured the public that there is no cause for panic, as the Ghaggar's water level is currently at 743.7 feet, well below the danger mark of 748 feet, and the situation remains fully under control. He called for vigilance and cooperation with the Punjab government and district administration to manage any potential challenges.
