Chandigarh, March 30 -- The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB), led by its Chairperson Reena Gupta, conducted a detailed capacity-building workshop on the newly-introduced Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules, 2026.
The initiative, held at the Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration in Chandigarh, was organised to enhance awareness and ensure smooth implementation of the updated framework issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
The revised rules, which will come into effect from April 1, 2026, represent a significant overhaul of the 2016 guidelines, placing stronger emphasis on scientific waste handling, segregation at source and enhanced accountability of all stakeholders involved.
