Chandigarh, May 11 -- The Punjab State Election Commission on Monday officially announced that voting for the upcoming municipal elections across the state for 8 municipal corporations, 76 municipal councils, and 21 nagar panchayats will be held on May 26, with the counting of votes scheduled for May 29.

With the announcement of the election dates, the Model Code of Conduct has come into immediate effect across the poll-bound areas.

Addressing a press conference, State Election Commissioner Dr Raj Kamal Chaudhary confirmed that a formal communication has been dispatched to the state government, effectively placing a freeze on all administrative transfers and postings until the conclusion of the electoral process.
