Chandigarh, Sept. 6 -- The Bhakra-Beas Management Board (BBMB) reported a 20 pc increase in water inflow into its dams this year compared to 2023, contributing to severe flooding across Punjab. The floods have affected approximately 3.75 lakh people across 23 districts, with over 36 fatalities recorded so far.
In a press conference, BBMB Chairman Manoj Tripathi stated that the decision to release water from the dams is made with the consensus of all stakeholder states. He emphasized that without the Bhakra and Pong dams, Punjab could have faced flooding as early as June.
