Chandigarh, May 31 -- In a major policy decision aimed at reshaping public employment in Punjab, the Cabinet led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann today approved a comprehensive framework to phase out the long-standing outsourced employment system in government departments and create a pathway for the regularisation of more than 65,000 workers.
The decision is being seen as one of the most significant employee welfare measures undertaken by the state government, as it seeks to eliminate the role of private contractors in government employment and establish a direct employer-employee relationship between the state and thousands of workers who have been serving in various departments for years without regular status.
