Chandigarh, March 8 -- Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Sunday presented a Rs 2.60 lakh crore Budget for 2026-27, an increase of about Rs 24,000 crore over the previous year, with higher allocations for power subsidies, agriculture and welfare programmes.
The Budget is higher than the Rs 2.36 lakh crore outlay for 2025-26 and focuses on supporting rural development, social security and infrastructure in the state.
Among sectoral allocations, the power sector received Rs 8,000 crore, forming part of a total Rs 17,435 crore allocation to departments overseen by cabinet minister Sanjeev Arora.
The agriculture and farmers' welfare department, headed by Gurmeet Singh Khuddian, was allocated Rs 15,350 crore.
