Chandigarh, Aug. 8 -- A Congress organisational meeting at Malerkotla today turned tense as rival groups backing former MLA Jasvir Singh Jassi and former minister Razia Sultana's camp confronted each other over access to the stage, forcing Punjab party chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring to step into the gathering and calm the workers.
The disruption came on the last day of the first phase of the Congress' booth-level campaign in the Malwa region. Warring and Punjab Congress in-charge Bhupesh Baghel were in Malerkotla to address party workers as the leadership reviewed its organisation ahead of the next assembly election.
