Sangrur, July 20 -- A 45-year-old farmer, allegedly distressed over a debt of around Rs 20 lakh, died during treatment after consuming sulphas tablets in Punjab's Sangrur district, police said today.
The deceased, identified as Darshan Singh, son of Dalip Singh and a resident of Khadial village, allegedly consumed the poisonous substance in his field. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Sunam, where he succumbed during treatment.
According to the farmer's brother, Satnam Singh, Darshan Singh owned around three acres of agricultural land and is survived by his wife and three children.
