Pune's Nihira Kaul wins championship, Sangli's Shreya Hippargi is runner-up in P R Mundargi women's chess tournament

Kolhapur, Aug. 30 -- Nihira Kaul of Pune and Shreya Hippargi won the championship and runners-up respectively in the Adv. P. R. Mundargi Memorial H2E State Women's Selection and International Rating Chess Competition organized by the Chess Association Kolhapur which concluded today.

After the final eighth round today, held at the Brahmin Sabha Karveer Mangaldham, top seeded Nihira Kaul of Pune won the championship by scoring seven out of eight points. She was awarded Rs 15,000 in cash and a trophy.

Second seeded Shreya Hippargi of Sangli won the runner-up title with six and a half points and 42 tie-break points, and was awarded Rs 13,000 and a trophy. Shrawani Undale of Pune won the third position by scoring six and a half points and 37 t...
