Pune, June 30 -- The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved a proposal to organise a year-long series of social, educational, cultural, and public awareness programmes to commemorate the bicentenary of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and the centenary of the Chavdar Tale Satyagraha.
The proposal, initiated by Deputy Mayor Parshuram Wadekar, received approval at the meeting of party leaders on Tuesday. Wadekar had submitted the proposal on May 5 seeking the formation of a special committee to plan and oversee the commemorative events.
