New Delhi, Nov. 13 -- Extensive dumping of poor quality PVC resin, containing carcinogenic compounds, in India, poses a significant risk to public health, the Centre for Domestic Economy Policy Research (C-DEP.in), has said.

PVC (Poly-vinyl chloride) is a synthetic resin commonly used in plastic products. It is hazardous throughout its lifecycle, from production, through usage, and as a waste product. Resins are used in varnishes, adhesives, food additives, incenses and perfumes. PVC resins can cause severe health problems, including cancer, endocrine disruption, endometriosis, neurological damage, birth defects, impaired child development and reproductive and immune system damage.
