Bhubaneswar, Aug. 18 -- The Orissa High Court has come to the aid of flood-hit villages in Pattamundai block of Kendrapara district, directing the government to immediately deploy adequate numbers of power and manual boats to restore connectivity for residents cut off by floodwater.

The court observed that it is the government's duty to ensure all necessary facilities for the sustenance of flood-affected people, including means of communication.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Harish Tandon and Justice Chittaranjan Dash issued the direction while disposing of an interim application filed by Anand Kumar Samal and others in a public interest litigation.
