Hyderabad, July 29 -- Telangana Forest, Environment and Endowments Minister Konda Surekha on Wednesday called on citizens to actively support tiger conservation, saying protecting tigers is key to preserving forests, biodiversity and the environment for future generations.
Speaking at the International Tiger Day programme at the Telangana State Forest Academy in Dulapally, the Minister said India is home to nearly 75 per cent of the world's tiger population and has 58 tiger reserves, attributing the country's success to the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, and Project Tiger launched in 1973.
