Hyderabad, Aug. 18 -- Telangana Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Tuesday directed officials to prioritise drinking water security while using available water resources judiciously to protect standing Kharif crops amid uncertainty over the remaining monsoon and possible El Nino impact.

Reviewing reservoir storage, inflows and irrigation prospects at Jalasoudha, Uttam Kumar said water management should be based on scientific assessment rather than expectations of heavy rainfall or flood inflows in September and October.

He directed officials to clearly report gross capacity, live storage, usable water, committed requirements and the quantity available for irrigation.
