Kolkata, Jan. 22 -- A primary school teacher from Maheshtala in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district was taken into custody on charges of sexually abusing a Class IV student, police confirmed on Thursday.
The alleged incident has led to unrest in the locality, with anxious parents assembling in large numbers and staging protests on the school campus.
The school is situated on the outskirts of Kolkata.
Police officials said the teacher was arrested late on Wednesday night after the victim's family submitted a written complaint at the Maheshtala police station.
