Bengaluru, May 15 -- In a significant ruling on media conduct and fair trial rights, the Karnataka High Court has directed the union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to take action on a complaint filed by Kannada actor Darshan Srinivas against alleged "media trial" in the sensational Renukaswamy murder case.
Justice Sachin Shankar Magadum observed that certain television channels had crossed permissible limits by virtually recreating courtroom proceedings on air and turning an ongoing criminal trial into a "public spectacle".
