Gadchiroli, July 22 -- : A pregnant woman from the remote Koindul village in Etapalli tehsil of Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district had to be carried on a makeshift stretcher by healthcare workers and villagers after an ambulance failed to reach the village due to the absence of a motorable road.
The woman developed labour pains on Tuesday, prompting Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers and local residents to carry her for one and a half kilometres through rough terrain to the nearest point accessible by an ambulance.
She was later shifted to a government hospital, where she safely delivered a baby.
