Shimla, March 23 -- The issue of setting up sewerage treatment plants (STPs) along riverbanks was raised in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly by Barsar MLA Inder Dutt Lakhanpal, who expressed concern over their proximity to water sources.
Responding to the matter during Zero Hour, Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh assured the House that the government is taking corrective measures and that new STPs are now being set up away from natural water sources to prevent contamination and environmental risks.
The Minister informed that he had personally inspected the STPs at Totu, Kandi and Summerhill, where retrofitting work and oxidation facilities are being strengthened to improve treatment efficiency and safety standards.
