Vatican City, Oct. 2 -- Pope Leo XIV called Friday for the church to form an alliance with artists to protect human creativity during an era of AI-generated content, following in the footsteps of his late predecessor Pope Francis who had also advocated caution against the technology, warning that AI potentially risked reducing humans into data points.

In a post on X, the pope said it was becoming increasingly important to distinguish between human art and content generated by machines, arguing that AI lacked the human qualities that make art unique.
