Chandigarh, Aug. 27 -- The water level in the Pong Dam reservoir has risen to nearly 1,394 feet, close to the danger mark, due to heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh.
The Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) is releasing approximately 82,000 cusecs of water into the Beas River to manage the rising levels, raising concerns about potential flooding in downstream areas of Punjab.
BBMB's Chief Engineer Rakesh Gupta expressed concern over the high inflow into the Pong Dam, also known as Maharana Pratap Sagar Lake. "The excessive inflow from Himachal Pradesh is worrying.
