Shimla, May 17 -- Polling for elections to urban local bodies in Himachal Pradesh concluded peacefully on Sunday with an overall voter turnout of 69.26 per cent recorded across the state, according to the State Election Commission.
The Commission, Secretary Surjeet Singh Rathore said elections were held for 54 urban local bodies after the notification for the polls was issued on April 23.
A total of 4,426 nomination papers were received for the elections, of which 32 were rejected and 4,394 accepted. After the withdrawal process, 237 candidates pulled out of the fray, leaving 4,147 candidates in the contest, he said.
Voting through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) was conducted from 7 am to 5 pm.
