Kolkata, April 18 -- The Election Commission of India (ECI) will place a 100-metre perimeter boundary around each polling booth, creating a clearly demarcated area accessible only to voters, a senior ECI official said on Saturday.
The first phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections, spread across 152 constituencies, is scheduled to take place on April 23.
The second phase is scheduled on April 29 across the remaining 142 constituencies of the 294-member Assembly.
The counting day is May 4.
Marking a difference from earlier elections, the booth-level officers (BLO) and other polling officials will be stationed outside this marked-out perimeter to carry out their duties, including verification of voter identification documents.
