Chennai, Aug. 11 -- Recent political realignments triggered a heated exchange in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Tuesday, with former AIADMK leaders O Panneerselvam and K A Sengottaiyan trading barbs over their respective shifts in political allegiance, forcing Speaker JCD Prabhakar to intervene and expunge certain remarks from the proceedings.

The exchange began during the debate on the General and Agricultural Budgets, when Panneerselvam, who was a former AIADMK leader and now a DMK legislator, criticised the ruling TVK government for failing to fulfil its poll promises and described the budget as a disappointment.
