Amroha, March 29 -- The Station House Officer (SHO) of Rahra police station in Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh was suspended for allegedly keeping a farmer in illegal custody for more than 24 hours in connection with a false rape complaint.
A departmental inquiry has also been ordered into the matter, officials said on Saturday.
The action followed a complaint filed by Ramdas, a farmer from Parora village under Rahra police station area, who approached the police office on Thursday afternoon. He alleged that a man named Jitendra had threatened to implicate him in a false case through a woman.
