New Delhi, March 20 -- In an unprecedented development in the media history of independent India, the headquarters of the country's prestigious news agency United News of India (UNI) were forcibly vacated late Friday evening without any prior notice by deploying heavy contingent of Delhi Police and paramilitary forces.
The news agency has been operating from its premises at 9 Rafi Marg for the past several decades.
Some government officials, along with about 300 jawans and officers of Delhi Police and paramilitary forces and some lawyers entered the premises suddenly and started pressuring the employees to immediately vacate the newsroom and leave the premises.
