Chandigarh, Aug. 28 -- Continuing the "Yudh Nashian Virudh" campaign launched by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to eradicate the drug menace from Punjab, the state police today carried out raids at 333 locations, marking the 179th consecutive day of the operation.
The crackdown led to the arrest of 99 drug smugglers and registration of 68 first information reports (FIRs) across the state. With these arrests, the total number of drug smugglers apprehended has risen to 27,409 in 179 days.
The raids resulted in the recovery of 985 grams of heroin, 21 kg of poppy husk, 1,625 intoxicant tablets/capsules and Rs 9,850 in drug money from those arrested, according to an official statement.
