Siliguri, Oct. 6 -- West Bengal BJP chief and Rajya Sabha member, Samik Bhattacharya, on Tuesday said the police had felt that Kabir, former TMC MLA and Aam Janata Unnayan Party chief, needed to be detained, and, if necessary, arrested, in the interest of maintaining law and order.

"Humayun Kabir has been rejected by the people. The people of West Bengal have come to know him for divisive politics, provocative statements and attempts to create tension between Hindus and Muslims. He has also insulted Indian civilisation and culture. His arrest is a reflection of the people's rejection of him," Bhattacharya said.
