Kolkata, April 29 -- As polling for the second phase of elections in West Bengal commenced, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media early in the morning, urging voters to turn out in record numbers and actively participate in the democratic process.

Posting in both Bengali and English, the Prime Minister appealed to citizens to strengthen democracy through greater participation.

"Vote in record numbers today. I call upon you to make our democracy more vibrant," Modi wrote, stressing the importance of high voter turnout.

He made a special appeal to women and the youth of the state, urging them to exercise their franchise in large numbers.
