Mysuru, July 26 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Mysuru next week is set to cast the national spotlight on a little-known chapter of Indian history, the role played by the erstwhile Mysore kingdom in shaping Swami Vivekananda's journey to the World's Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893.

Modi will inaugurate the Viveka Smaraka on August 1 at Narayana Shastri Road, where Vivekananda stayed for nearly three weeks during his visit to Mysore in November 1892.

Historians regard the visit as a defining phase in the monk's life, when interactions with Maharaja Chamaraja Wadiyar and Diwan Sir K Seshadri Iyer reinforced his resolve to represent India's spiritual traditions on the global stage.
