New Delhi, Sept. 22 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced the initiation of "Project Rhino" to provide financial and technical support to states for the protection and conservation of the greater one-horned rhinoceros, as he marked World Rhino Day by highlighting India's efforts to safeguard the species.
In a post on social media platform X, Modi said Assam had emerged as a major global stronghold for the greater one-horned rhinoceros, with nearly 80 per cent of the world's rhino population, and praised the efforts at Kaziranga to curb poaching.
