Shimla, March 27 -- Despite the union Government effecting a central excise duty cut on petrol and diesel with immediate effect, consumers in Himachal Pradesh unlikely to have any major relief from the duty cut as the state government is considering a separate welfare cess on fuel in the state.
According to a notification issued by the Finance Ministry on Friday, the Centre has amended excise duty rates through notification (No. 05/2026) Central Excise. As per the notification, excise duty on petrol has been revised to Rs 3 per litre, while the duty on diesel has been reduced to nil.
