Srinagar, July 28 -- Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday apologised for her controversial remarks at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, saying that her use of the word "bahana" (excuse) while referring to militancy in Kashmir had inadvertently slipped out during her interaction with reporters.

Mehbooba's remarks at a recent protest held at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, in which she appeared to justify the use of force in Kashmir by referring to the prevailing militancy, triggered a political storm in Jammu and Kashmir, with the J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and several other parties accusing her of legitimising security excesses and demanding an unconditional apology.
