Shillong, Aug. 26 -- Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today said the proposal of the government to take over the responsibility of paying the salaries of employees of the three autonomous district councils is optional and not mandatory.
Speaking to reporters after chairing the second Cabinet Retreat in Shillong, Sangma informed that three sub-committees will be formed to engage with the respective autonomous district councils and a report will be submitted in 45 days to the government.
The three autonomous district councils will be asked to appoint an officer holding the rank of a principal secretary to oversee financial administration, and to ensure that funds are utilized specifically for salaries and financial reforms.
