Lucknow, July 24 -- Anticipating the long queues for new passport applicants, the Passport Department will open 4,500 special appointments for applicants from 49 districts in Uttar Pradesh on August 1, Saturday.
Besides, starting August 17, applicants will need to come to Lucknow with an appointment to resolve any issues after applying for a passport.
Regional Passport Officer Gyanveer Singh said that the passport processing fees have increased since July 1 and due to this, a large number of people have booked appointments for general applications until June 30. As a result, appointments are not available in many districts until September.
