Varanasi, Aug. 14 -- Uttar Pradesh Water Power Minister Swatantra Dev Singh on Friday said that learning from the tragedy of the country's Partition, everyone should work to strengthen the nation's unity and integrity by prioritizing national spirit.
Addressing as the chief guest at a program organized in the Circuit House auditorium on the occasion of Partition Horrors Memorial Day, Singh said that India gained independence onAugust 15, 1947, but Pakistan separated from India a day earlier, on August 14.
During Partition, a large number of people in both countries lost their lives and millions were displaced. In memory of this tragedy, 'Partition Horrors Memorial Day' is observed every yearon August 14.
