Kannur, Jan. 3 -- The parole of newly elected CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) councillor of Payyanur Municipality V K Nishad, who has been undergoing 20 years of imprisonment in a case involving an alleged bomb attack on a police vehicle on August 1, 2012, was today extended until January 11.
Nishad, who was lodged at Kannur Central Jail on November 25, was initially granted a six-day emergency parole on humanitarian grounds due to his father's illness on December 26 evening. On Saturday, Jail authorities extended the parole until January 11.
The extension comes as the Kerala High Court is scheduled to consider Nishad's appeal to quash his conviction on January 9.
