New Delhi, Aug. 1 -- A life convict who had allegedly been on the run after jumping parole in a 2002 murder case has been arrested after nearly 16 years, the Delhi Police Crime Branch said on Saturday.

The accused, identified as Tota Ram alias Bablu (45), a native of Badaun in Uttar Pradesh, was convicted in a murder case registered at Krishna Nagar police station and had been serving a life sentence before he was granted one month's parole in September 2010.

Police said he failed to return to jail after the parole period ended and had since been declared a parole absconder.
