Asuncion, June 5 -- Paraguay manager Gustavo Alfaro has said that his team will enter the FIFA World Cup with nothing to lose as it ends a 16-year absence from football's showpiece.
"We don't have expectations, we have hope," Alfaro told reporters ahead of the team's last warm-up match against Nicaragua in Asuncion on Friday.
"I know what this country feels, I know what 16 long years of waiting, frustration, sorrow and curses are like, what it's like to watch a World Cup on television. I'm not going to ask any Paraguayan to be rational."Paraguay will begin its World Cup campaign against co-host the United States on June 12 before facing Turkiye and Australia in Group D.
