Nagpur, April 20 -- Fairness creams allegedly imported from Pakistan and marketed for instant skin lightening have been found to pose serious health risks, with cases of kidney-related ailments reported among users in Nagpur, officials said on Monday.
According to medical officials, at least 18 women in the city have developed kidney disorders over the past two years, reportedly linked to prolonged use of such creams.
Investigations indicate that these products contain high levels of mercury, a toxic substance that can enter the bloodstream through the skin and damage vital organs, particularly the kidneys.
