Hyderabad, June 26 -- Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Friday criticised AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP, Asaduddin Owaisi over his remarks on passports, alleging that the opposition parties were spreading misinformation on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Addressing a press conference here, Rao alleged that the Congress and AIMIM were misleading people on the issue, similar to their campaign during the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA).

He claimed that a passport is not conclusive proof of Indian citizenship and cited a 2013 judgment of the Bombay High Court, which, he said, had observed that a passport is primarily a travel document.
