Chennai, April 19 -- Former union Minister and Rajya Sabha member Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss, heading one of the PMK factions, on Sunday said overcrowding in a cramped room was said to be the reason for the blast at a private cracker manufacturing unit, which has claimed 18 lives so far and left several injured, in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu on Sunday evening.
Unconfirmed reports said 21 people have lost their lives in the blast caused by friction during mixing of chemicals to make crackers.
He said many more are seriously injured and are fighting for their lives in hospitals as four rooms were razed to the ground in which about 30 workers were said to be engaged in work.
