Bengaluru, March 18 -- A severe wild elephant menace has been reported in parts of Chikkamagaluru district, with more than 70 elephants roaming in and around Mudigere taluk, triggering fear among farmers and residents.
According to officials, large herds of elephants have been frequently sighted in coffee estates and nearby habitations, damaging crops and posing a serious threat to human life.
The movement of such a large number of elephants has disrupted normal agricultural activities, with labourers reluctant to venture into estates due to safety concerns. The situation has intensified human-elephant conflict in the Malnad region, which has been witnessing repeated incidents in recent months.
