Kolkata, Feb. 6 -- A little more than 50000 voters categorised as "unmapped" are set to be dropped from West Bengal's electoral rolls after failing to appear before officials with documents to prove their eligibility.

According to officials in the Chief Electoral Officer's (CEO) office, electoral registration officers (EROs) had issued hearing notices to 31,68,426 voters flagged as "unmapped".

Of this total, slightly more than 50,000 voters - about 1.57 per cent - did not respond despite repeated summons, leading officials to mark their names as liable for deletion from the final voters' list.

Sources said the verification hearings for "unmapped" voters have now concluded.
