Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 23 -- The Kerala Food and Civil Supplies Department has completed the distribution of 5,93,408 free Onam kits, four days ahead of Thiruvonam festival, setting a record, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Anoop Jacob has said.
The kits, prepared through Supplyco, were delivered to ration shops across the state as part of the government's Onam distribution programme, the Minister said.
In addition to the targeted 5,93,408 kits, another 8,902 free kits were supplied to welfare institutions, taking the total number of kits prepared and supplied for the Onam programme to 6,02,310.
The Minister said 4,30,254 ration card holders had so far collected their Onam kits, while 1,59,582 kits remain in stock at ration shops.
