Aizawl, Aug. 27 -- More than 29,000 people from Myanmar, uprooted by the political turmoil and armed conflict following the military coup of 2021, are currently living in Mizoram, state home minister K. Sapdanga informed the Assembly today.
Responding in writing to a query raised by ruling Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) legislator V. L. Zaithanzama on the opening day of the two-day monsoon session, the home minister said district administrations across Mizoram have initiated biometric registration of the displaced persons.
"As of August 11, a total of 29,046 Myanmar nationals have taken shelter within the state," Sapdanga said.
