Mumbai, Aug. 25 -- In a major push to promote linguistic integration and commuter convenience, the Maharashtra government has successfully trained over 1.65 lakh auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers in practical, everyday Marathi.
State Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik announced that a massive 105-day special drive-conducted between May 1 and August 15 across 36 districts-saw approximately 1,800 litterateurs and writers train 1,65,800 commercial vehicle drivers in functional Marathi.
Addressing media persons alongside union representatives, Minister Sarnaik emphasised that basic communication skills in the local language are vital for drivers interacting daily with passengers.
